Schwalm's Cleona Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Schwalm's Cleona Restaurant feels like entering a quiet refuge where the pace slows just enough to savor a simple, satisfying meal. Nestled along East Penn Avenue, this family-friendly spot welcomes you with an inviting, unassuming charm—it’s the kind of place where familiar faces mingle with new ones, and the hum of conversation blends seamlessly with the comforting clink of dishes.
The atmosphere carries a sense of warmth rooted in tradition, reflective of a classic family restaurant that has gracefully held onto its old-school character without feeling frozen in time. Here, the focus is on genuine hospitality as much as hearty, thoughtfully prepared food that echoes down-home cooking. It’s a place that encourages you to settle in for breakfast or lunch and enjoy the relaxed flow of a small town morning or afternoon.
The menu quietly tells stories of comfort and care—whether it’s the savory fullness of eggs paired with crisp bacon, or the nostalgic appeal of creamed chipped beef on toast with a side of fluffy potatoes. Meals arrive as familiar friends, hearty and homey, but made with a mindful touch that invites you to linger. Desserts, like a freshly baked lemon meringue pie or a slice of blueberry pie, add a subtle sweetness to round out the experience, perfect for anyone who appreciates the little joys of a classic diner dessert without fuss.
What stands out most is how the staff’s easygoing friendliness complements the space’s modest, unpretentious vibe. Conversations flow naturally, and the kitchen’s steady rhythm feels like a comforting backdrop rather than a spectacle. Regulars and visitors alike find here a hidden gem—an authentic, quiet spot to gather around tables filled with good food, simple pleasures, and the steady rhythm of community life.

Stopped here after a baseball tournament at In The NET. Food was decent and correctly priced. Blueberry pie was awesome. I’ll be back.

Not your average diner. Not your typical diner food. Pre-Covid prices. Tastes like real down home cooking. Friendly staff. We need more hidden gems like Schwalm's Cleona Restaurant.

Came for breakfast and it was very good! My wife is picky about scrapple and she said it was the best she had in the area. I'm sure we'll be back again! The service was great and the deserts looked good even though we didn't have dessert. The price was very reasonable too!

This is a very nice quiet place where a lot of locals go, last time I was here I went with my dad and grandparents; the people there were nice enough to let me eat my avocado inside as well. They provided a knife for me to cut it. It’s a basic Diner type of feel with even better dinner style food. The service is very good and the ladies there do work for tips so they make sure to take care of you atmosphere is quiet and nice. A lot of older locals go there for food in the morning.

I've been going to Schwalm's for about 30 years. Their prices have always been more than reasonable, the food homemade, and they have always been friendly and welcoming. Great breakfast spot!
